When did I become a fan?

I have always been a lover of sports. It was great growing up and hanging out with the boys playing baseball or football in the street. It was funny in high school being 'one of the guys' while we watched sporting events. I was always the cool girl who had then game on even before the boys and yelled and cheered louder than anyone.

This yelling and cheering, however, was limited to football and baseball. These were the two sports I always watched and was involved in when I was growing up. Football because that is what my parents were into, and baseball because I grew up at the baseball field watching my brother play.

When I started dating Jeremy, I knew he was a basketball fan, especially a Spurs fan. What had I gotten myself into? Here was the one sport I knew NOTHING about. I barely knew the teams, I didn't know the rules. How was I going to share in this love of his?

Fast forward 11 months and times are different. Somewhere along the way I became a huge basketball fan, a huge Spurs fan. We were watching a game the other night and I was yelling more than Jeremy was about shots made, shots missed and bad calls. When did I become a fan?

I'm not quite sure when it happened, but it's exciting it did. I find myself wanting to watch the game more than Jeremy. I can't wait to see the Spurs play in the finals. I'm excited I know a little about the rules and can follow the game pretty well. I don't know when it happened, but somewhere I became a fan. It's exciting now to share in the love of my love!

Mr. Skunk...he's back.

If you remember last fall I told you about my friend the Skunk I would encounter when driving home from Jeremy's late at night. If you don't remember check it out here. Well, I was so sad this winter he was no longer there. I didn't smell him at that same time on my drive home. The other day I was driving back to the house with my brother when I got overly excited about a stench in the car. You see, my friend the skunk was back at it. I was so happy I was jumping up and down in my seat. It's good to have an old friend back.

Do you ever have days you feel like this??

Where did it go??

As you can see from the last few posts...I lost my mind somewhere. When going back through my blogs, I found a few I thought I had published, but I hadn't. I'm sorry you're reading these many weeks or months after they happened, but I enjoyed reading them again so I thought you might enjoy them too. Now, if anyone can help me find my missing brain, that would be great!!

A weekend with the Grandparents

Back in February I went to visit my Grandparents who live in Lubbock, TX. It is always good to see them since I only get to do it a few times a year. Plus, my Memaw's health is starting to fail, so I truly covet the time I get to see her.

Just a few observations from my weekend with my Grandparents:

  • The smell of their laundry soap always brings me back, I think they have used the same kind since....well forever.
  • My Papaw is from old school Texas and still thinks it's okay to drive around town with a mixed drink in his hand.
  • It's always okay to bring up politics, but when you continue the conversation you're all wrong.
  • Nursing homes are very sad places that can be REALLY funny.
  • They always use old fashioned words, like, boil (I'm talking a sore...not water bubbling)
  • It's still funny to see a 74 year old man with a cell phone, is that allowed??
  • They like to say Ma'am really really loud when they can't hear you.
  • It's very easy to sleep in past 9:00 am.
  • There is always something really cool that I just want to take home with me.

My favorite lines...

While in bed sick a few months back, I decided to take up one of my lost loves...watching Sex and the City. Now don't judge, but I think this show is amazing. It's funny...clever...and oh so true!! I never watched this show while it was on, so when I got the box set last year I didn't know what i was getting myself into. But now...I'm a believer. So, here are a few of my favorite lines from my day with the girls in the city:

  • His words said no, but his kiss said yes.
  • Which comes first...the chicken or the sex?
  • A little machine with a big message.
  • When does the art of compromise become compromising?
  • We finally got the penis working, I don't want to scare it.
  • "I know you're probably busy...but I feel that you need to know your good friend Miranda Hobbs has just taken a piece of cake out of the garbage and eaten it. You'll probably need this information when you check me into the Betty Crocker clinic.
  • I mean then...do I have to reciprocate?

PAAARRRR!!!

A few weeks back was the high schoolers night out at Hinkle Family Fun Center, the local mini-golf and whatever else you want to do for fun area. It was such a blast and hanging out with those kids really makes me feel like I'm back in my fun high school years.

I couldn't get over the fact that they wanted nothing more than to do Chinese Firedrills on the way there. Now, don't get me wrong, it was a blast seeing them run around and around the cars, but I have been in a car in which the cops pull you over for this..I can't afford a ticket. Either way it was such a blast to see them doing this.

Once we got to playing the golf it was great to be in the outdoors. Jeremy and I played the same course twice so we could follow both groups around and let me tell you, I was soooo much better the second time around. I was only one over par for the course. I think that might be a personal best. It was so much fun to hear Jeremy say in his best pirate voice, "PAARRRR" every time I made a 2 on the hole.

Driving back toward the church to stop at the local pizza parlor was a riot. The kids were wanting to do Chinese firedrills again, but this time they decided to change cars, so I now had Jeremy's passengers in my car and mine were in his. The best part though was all the boys mooning the girls...Yes Colton, we even have your bum on camera.

It was such a great night to really get everyone's minds off of their life and revert to a state of childhod silliness. I can't wait for the next time!

Summer Reading - HELP!!!

I'm needing some help!! It's that time of year again. It's time to sit in hammocks, in the park, at the beach, in the mountains and READ. I don't know why it is that this time of year sparks peoples interest in reading. I have spent 6 years reading books for school, and although I haven't really taken much time for personal reading I have done a little. This summer, however, has rekindled my passion for reading. However, I have been out of the loop for so long, I don't know what's good out there to read.

So I am asking for your help. I want to know your favorite book. I want to know what book really made you think, cry, laugh. What book inspired you? Fiction or Non-Fiction, Classic or new release, I want to know what book you would recommend for my summer reading. Hurry, the summer is almost here and I have no books in my bag.

Once in a lifetime

My graduation was amazing. At first I wasn't sure I was wanting to go through with the whole thing and walk the line. I mean, I have been in school for so long that I just wanted to be done. I didn't want to have to deal with it anymore. But, I knew my parents wanted to see me go through it, and the closer it got I was really excited about it.

We started off my graduation weekend with a trip to see a game of the minor league baseball team, the Albuquerque Isotopes. My Dad had the box and we catered food. The friends I had there were amazing and it was such a great time.

The ceremony wasn't too long. Only two and a half hours, which wasn't long at all considering the amount of students graduating. I was a little nervous walking down the steps into the pit, especially in heels. But I made it. It was great to hear them call my name and walk across the stage to receive my fake diploma.

My party that night was so much fun!! I had a lot of great people there who really cared about me. It couldn't go on without its usual family drama, but in the end it was all worth it. The hardest part following graduation was waiting for my grades. I wasn't positive I passed all of my classes since there were a couple of finals I thought I did awful on. But I did pass...with flying colors.

Now it's on to bigger things. I am not sure what program I'm going to go through to get my teachers license, but that's what is on deck next. I can't wait...it feels good to be grown up!!

Guess What??

Yup, it's true...my life has been crazy these last couple of weeks.

I graduated...WOHOO!!! And had an amazingly fun time at the party. It was so great to have people there who really loved and cared about my accomplishment.

My busy time has been filled with submitting my final grades and getting ready for the trip to Vegas. This could not be done, however, before the company golf tournament...oh man that's a story in itself. (just wait I'll let you know all about it). Vegas was a blast but it's really not a place I can go to often.

This was just a quick little note to say that I am still alive and kicking, I have just been a bit busy. I hope to dazzle you all with my life stories here again really really soon!!

One Last Time

The day is finally here for my last final and my graduation tomorrow. It has been a good 6 (yes, that's a 6) years. As good as it has been I'm excited for it to be over. This chapter of my life is coming to an end. It has been a time of ups and downs, smiles and tears. It has been a time of hard work and lots of play. I have really enjoyed my college experience and the life lessons I have learned in this time.

Unlike my high school graduation where I knew I had 4 more years of schooling, I am embarking on a journey that will now lead me into my career. I now have to grown up. I have to emerge from this curtain I have known for so long called school. I have to come out of hiding and face the real world. It is a time of excitement and fear all at the same time.

This is a time of bittersweet excitement for me. In 40 minutes I will make my last drive into the Q parking lot at school. I will ride the horrific shuttle one last time. I will enter Dane Smith Hall with the smell of market soup one last time. I will climb the stairs and sit behind a desk with a blue book in front of me one last time. I'm starting to feel a little nostalgic. This has been who I am for so long and today will be my last day as a college student.

So I say now CONGRATS to all those out there that are in my same shoes. I hope that your heart is filled with as much excitement as mine. And here's to our futures! It's true...today is the first day of the rest of our lives, lets embrace that and run at the world full speed ahead!!

Office Fridge

What is it about the office refrigerator that it has to always stink?? I went to get a coke this morning to have with my Capin' Crunch and was almost asphyxiated when I opened the fridge. Hello people!! Don't leave stinky food in there for months...who knows what is growing in there!

You know what else I say Yay for?? An amazing boyfriend who loves me. Rain, rain and more rain in the upcoming forcast. An 89 on a paper I took 2 hours to write. Sweetened iced tea. And my amazing and cool new mac....look what I did on it the other day in class....

Now that's what I call a cool computer.

WHAT AN AMAZING DAY!!!

I was writing my beauty blog tonight finding the three things that brought me joy today when I realized there was way more than 3, so I thought I would continue my fabulous day here...
  1. I had to drive into Albuquerque to go to BestBuy so I decided to stop by and have lunch with Jeremy. It is always so so much fun when we get to do that.
  2. My Dad had to get his oil changed today and he asked me to do it. Do you know what this meant?? You guessed it, I got to drive his hot car. It's amazing what driving a hot car will do to a girl.
  3. I finally got my external mouse. I am learning to love my new mac, but I was missing an external mouse. Today I got to use a gift certificate and get one. Oh with what great ease I can now steer this little pointer around the screen.
  4. The clouds were building all day and really looked threatening. I love rain clouds, and I love it even more when it rains like it did tonight!
  5. I finally got to plant my vegetable garden this year. I love watching and waiting for the new growth to sprout up all new and green.
  6. The fall schedule of classes was out for my teacher program. It looks like I might have my schedule all figured out.
  7. Dinner with the family is great, but when it includes peach iced tea from Olive Garden...even better!!
  8. Tonight was the big screen showing of Dirty Dancing for the 20th anniversary. It was so much fun to watch this movie with other lovers of the Dirty Dancing. You can really love and enjoy it that much more.
  9. I love running in the rain, but doing so hand and hand with the one you love is an amazing experience. You should try it sometime.
  10. Cuddle time tonight had great conversation. And great closeness!!
So can you see why I am such a happy girl today?? I hope your day was just as super-dee-duper!!
