I'm Back!!

Yes, it's true, I am back from Mexico. Jeremy and I went with a group of 22 people from our church to Juarez to build a house for a family in need. It was an amazing week and I can't wait to tell you all about it....once I get some rest!

What brings you comfort? What is the one thing that can turn a bad day into a great day? What makes your tears go away? What turns your gray skies blue?? Here is a list of a few things that bring me comfort:

  • Laying in a pile of clothes fresh out of the dryer
  • Cookies baking in the oven
  • Getting an A on a test
  • Driving in my car with no destination in mind
  • Hearing my favorite song on the radio
  • Rudy
  • A hug
  • Being in the arms of the one I love
  • Season 3 of Dawson's Creek
  • A book with a good love story
  • Mix CD's
  • Sun on my face
  • Clean sheets
  • Silence
  • Birds chirping as a sign of spring

We can use Bibles

So, I was filling in for Jeremy this past weekend teaching his Sunday School class since he was out of town on a retreat. It came to game time and we were going to play a game called Fruit Basket Upset. It's a pretty fun game in which everyone is in a circle sitting in chairs. Each person draws a fruit name from a stack of cards...they are now this fruit. There is one person in the middle who calls out different fruit names and then yells the word "Go". Anyone who was one of the fruits called has to get up and find a new seat while the person in the middle takes one from the fruit he called. Sure it's a fun game...kind of chaotic.

Apparently Jeremy had played a game similar to this with his high schoolers one time. Somehow in this other game the kids hit each other with newspapers (yeah...he likes the violent games), and the kids decided they wanted to play his version. I told them it would be fine, but we had no newspapers around and maybe he could play it with them next week. They seemed okay with that until one quiet mid schooler pipped up and said "We could use Bibles!!"

Seriously, the kids wanted to play a game in which they smacked one another with Bibles. Now I know I have heard of doing what we can to get into the Word, but seriously?? We can use Bibles?? Unbelievable!! It sure gave me a good laugh!!

Nevertheless

Girls...why do we overreact so much?? Why is it that we can take a simple little conversation, letter or blog and make it mean exactly the opposite of its original intention? And how is it that we can take that same simple little conversation, letter or blog and make it into a fight that doesn't need to exist? For some reason I like to do this. I wouldn't consider it a favorite past time of mine...just a minor, okay MAJOR flaw. I'm just lucky to have people in my life who are willing to forgive this and help me to get over this flaw to become a better person. I think it's what we like to call perfectable, but I'm calling it my nevertheless moment...let me explain.

Today I was listening to a sermon that talked about the most important word in the bible being nevertheless. When he asked what the most important word was I thought maybe it was love or grace, but when he said nevertheless I was a bit confused. Nevertheless?? To me that just seems like an eloquent way to say "however", but once it was explained, boy was I wrong.

The sermon talked about how we all have moments in our life that may appear to be roadblocks...nevertheless we overcome them to become better people. We may be born with a learning disability or maybe we have been fired from what we thought was the best job. Nevertheless, we overcome that and through the grace of God we find exactly what we were called to do and it's there that we find true happiness.

I am taking this nevertheless a bit further and saying that we don't just have one huge nevertheless moment in our lives, we also have many small nevertheless moments. And with the help of God and those around us we get through them to become happier people. So what is the nevertheless in your life that is holding you back or that you need to get through? And what do you need to do to overcome it? We all have them, and with a little help we can become better people because of them.

Isn't it crazy??

So I've come to the conclusion that when people are sick they do really weird things. Here's what I have done:
  • Got a shot. Yes, me the girl who hates needles, when confronted with a fever and sore throat opted not for more cowbell...no I went for the shot of penicillin in my rear.
  • Craved Sprite...day and night it's all I have wanted.
  • At the same time I have craved Sprite I wanted nothing more to eat than Mac n Cheese
  • Slept naked. Now quit your snickering, but if you knew me you would know how hard this is and for some reason I don't want to sleep in clothes.
  • Watched John Wayne movies. That's right...I was watching a John Wayne movie and was into it.
So it's true. Strep throat has made me go bonkers. I can't wait to be feeling 100% so I can knock these strange habits off.

Strep Sucks!!

Can I tell you how much strep throat sucks?? Why is it that they have to totally gag you with those extra long Q-Tips to tell if you have the dreaded yuck? Can I tell you that getting a penicillin shot in your rear end to hopefully get rid of this yucky throat-ness earlier sucks even more. Can I tell you that almost passing out and having to put my head between my legs to prevent a blackout just tops this suckiness off. But you know what makes it all better?? My amazing boyfriend who will spend 2 hours with me at the Dr. and spent two whole days with me taking care of my needs.
