My new Mac

If you are reading this...welcome to my world of Mac. Yup, it's true I did decide on a Mac and so far I really like it, I just wish I knew how to use it. Seriously, I think I'm going to have to get a mac for dummies book. I have grown up on a PC, to be quite honest I was a little worried to tell my Daddy I wanted a mac, so I know my way around a PC pretty well. Working on this mac is quite different. Let me tell you what I mean:

  • I do not close applications on the right, they are now on the left. I will not tell you how many times I go to the left to close the internet.
  • The time is not on the bottom of the screen, it is on the top. I keep thinking I don't have time on the computer, then I get smart and remember it's on the top.
  • There is no start menu. I didn't know what to do when I first opened and couldn't go to start.
  • There is no right click..it's a little hard, but the scrolling mouse is amazing.
  • I keep making sure to wash my hands before I use the computer...I want the white to stay white.
  • It's amazing having this ishot camera, but the pictures I take off it do not due me justice. I sure hope I don't look like that in real life.
  • Safari has been fun getting to use, but I did break down and download my trusty firefox, it allows you to do much more with blogger.
So I can say it has been a bit different getting used to it, but like I said in my beauty blog...this is a new chapter in my life with graduating from college and I am ready for a change all around.

Are those....GOGGLES??

As I was driving to class from the church today I saw the funniest thing I have seen in a LONG time. There was a dog who was driving with his owner and sticking his head out the window as most dogs love to do. Next thing I know he's looking back at me and is wearing goggles. GOGGLES!! You know like motorcycle riders wear?? It was so funny I couldn't stop laughing or trying to take a picture while trying not to hit the van in front of me. Here is what I was able to get:

Illusions

As a result of doing anything I could to distract myself so I don't have to write one of my papers, I came across these cool optical illusions. I'm sure you may have seen some of them, but I still think they're cool no matter how many times I check them out.

Count the BLACK dots.

Focus on the black dot in the center and move your head close to and away
from the computer screen

These last two are crazy because they are actually still pictures.

Pilates

So...I am a huge fan of pilates. A few years back, well actually after high school, I started doing pilates. While doing it I felt great and looked great. I have decided that on top of the swimming Jeremy and I are doing...well going to do....at the gym, I would pick up my pilates routine again. I'm so excited to see if it can work for me as well now as it did then. So I started today and boy am I tired. My abs are fatigued and I'm a little out of breath. But that's okay, right?? I mean, I know that means it's starting to work. I can't wait to keep you posted on the progress!!

Taking the Plunge

So I have decided to take the plunge. That's right, I finally made up my mind that my computer is very very close to quitting on me and it's time to buy a new one. Not just any new one...I am going Mac. I'm a little nervous about what to expect. But I'm going to go at this full swing!! I'm going to completely immerse myself in the mac world and see what it has to offer me. I hear I wont be disappointed, and I'm hoping not. Here's to what may come this week....I'm excited!!

Quirky

So I totally just wrote about this on my beauty blog, but I thought it was so profound that I had to share here...just kidding. I just think it's quirky the differences people have in the way they do things.

Jeremy and I have completely different ways in which we work. I am one who has to have to the TV on. I don't know what's going on on this TV, but I need it for noise. If I listen to music I get too distracted. Jeremy is the opposite. He listens to music and gets distracted while working with the TV on. These differences are amazing because they allow me to work on papers while Jeremy relaxes and watches TV. We are quirky but great!

My weekly Meeting

So...yes, my name is Katie and I'm a slacker, but wait!!! I think I'm starting to get over my slacker ways. Yesterday was an amazing day of homework. Jeremy and I met my Mom for lunch and then came back here to my house where we hung out all afternoon together. I find it fantastic how him and I can spend so much time together and never grow tired of one another...anyways I'm getting off task. We came back here to do work and I got 2 out of 5 of my papers I have due before next Friday done!! Yup...I think I'm starting to turn over a new leaf...at least for a day!!

Jumping on my Soapbox

So I am in complete horror with the terrible events that took place today on the Virginia Tech campus. And although I am writing this with few actual facts as it is so soon after what took place, I am already aggravated.

I am aggravated that this person would come to a safe place, where young adults are trying to better their future by getting a higher education and destroy that. Who does he think he is? Are we safe anywhere anymore??

Second I am aggravated by the finger pointing. Instead of pointing the finger at the real person we should, the idiot who came in and shot up the place, the media is pointing the finger at the University stating that they should have had a better warning system to notify students as to what was going on. Now, I am in agreement that there should be warning systems put into place, but seriously people, this is a tragedy. We need to focus on what is in front of us and STOP pointing the finger. At this point it's just not worth it!!

UGH!!!

So I'm sitting here in class...waiting for my last class of the day to start and listening to these two guys jab about...what else, POLITICS. Okay, I know everyone has a right to their own opinion, but to sit here and listen to these two guys state false facts is just annoying. Make it all stop!!!

Blood Brother

Have you ever thought of Jesus as your blood brother? Let me tell you a story by Sue Monk Kidd:

"On a hot and hazy summer day, under the canopy of an oak tree, my son Bob and his buddy Michael, both nice, are swinging on the ropes that dangle from the tree limbs. They've spent part of the afternoon watching the Lone Ranger and Tonto on television. Now they ride the old rope swings...a cowboy and an Indian brave, shouting, "Hi-ho, Silver, away!" It's all wonderful magic that rolls like a tumbleweed out of their imagination.

But as I watch from the kitchen window, the magic is broken. Michael slips from the swing and lands on a tree root. He picks himself up, staring at his palm and a slight trickle of blood winding onto his wrist. I shake my head at all the cuts and scratches of summer. Already that morning Bob had cut his thumb on a tin can buried in the alley, and I had treated and bandaged the wound.

I reach for the trusty box of Band-Aids and make my way outside. But as I approach the oak, I notice the two of them locked together in whispers. My son peels off his bandage and lifts his tin-can cut toward Michael. Then in a secret moment under the tree, the magic that had been interrupted suddenly resumes. The two boys touch their wounds together just as Tonto and the Lone Ranger had done...solemnly becoming "blood brothers." And when they are finished, the pain in Michael's face has vanished.

I treat the wound and slip away, sure that something special had happened across the landscape of this ordinary summer day."

After reading this story I was in awe at what this bond, this blood bond could do to the boy who was in pain, crying and bleeding. These two boys took the pain they had each endured and turned it into healing. I know we have all thought of Jesus as different things: our Lord, our Savior, our friend, our lover. But have you ever thought of Jesus as your blood brother?

Jesus endured wounds and death on the cross. He did this for you and me. You and I endure wounds in everyday life. We get hurt, we cry, feel pain. What would be an amazing thing to do? Take that pain you endure, just as the young boys in the story did, and become a blood brother with Jesus. Take your hurt and pain to him. He endured his wounds so he could do this for us, so that he could become our blood brother to take away our hurt and our pain.

Slacker

Hi, my name is Katie, and I am a slacker. (Your correct response here would be "Hi Katie")

Yup, it's true, my slacking this semester has led me to having to bust my cute little butt these last 4 weeks and enroll in these "weekly blog meetings" with other slackers. (Yes, I just called you a slacker. Don't go and try to tell me you're not..I know you are. Just admit it!! You know it's the first step.) You know what that means?? 3 term papers and 2 finals...in 4 weeks. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but the reward, GRADUATION, is so worth it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Until then I will be attending these weekly blog meetings to let you know of my progress of leaving my old slacker ways behind and taking the steps to my outlook on dumb classes with ridiculous assignments.
